At Google I/O 2026, Google unveiled Antigravity 2.0 — an agent platform that goes well beyond a chat window. A single API call spins up an agent that executes code, manages files, browses the web, all inside a secure Linux sandbox hosted by Google. There’s now a desktop app, a CLI, and an SDK. Not a hackathon project anymore — infrastructure.
Alongside it comes Gemini 3.5 Flash, fast enough to run entire agent fleets in parallel. No coincidence — the architecture is purpose-built for agents.
And Google isn’t alone. OpenAI has shipped GPT-5.5 with significantly improved tool use and reasoning, and the entire ecosystem is drifting in the same direction: away from prompt engineering, toward delegatable tasks.
What this means for developers:
- Agents become a building block, not an experiment
- Infrastructure (sandboxing, orchestration, observability) becomes the bottleneck
- If you’re not playing now, you’ll be surprised in six months
